How We Diagnose Bosch Appliances

Bosch is best known for its dishwashers, and that's where most problems show up: an E15 or E24 on the display, water left in the tub, dishes that come out dirty or wet. Some of those trace back to a clogged filter or a kinked drain hose, so we check the simple causes first. When a part has failed, we test it before ordering, because a drain pump, a heater and a control board can all cause the same symptom.

Bosch and Thermador are made by the same company, BSH, and share many dishwasher designs and parts, so we see the same failures on both brands (see our Thermador repair page). If you smell gas near a Bosch range or cooktop, leave the house and call SoCalGas or 911 first.

Appliance Insight is an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with, authorized or endorsed by Bosch. If your appliance is still under the Bosch warranty, contact Bosch before booking independent service.

Bosch Appliances We Repair

Bosch Dishwasher Repair (100, 300, 500, 800 Series, Benchmark)

Technician repairing a built-in dishwasher
Built-in and panel-ready Bosch dishwashers, including models with CrystalDry, PrecisionWash and the AquaStop leak-protection hose.

What we fix most often:
  • E15: water detected in the base, the dishwasher won't run
  • E24 or E25: water not draining, a blocked drain or a drain pump problem
  • Water left in the bottom after the cycle
  • Dishes not getting clean, or spots and film on glasses
  • Water not heating, or cycles running much longer than usual
  • Door falling open or not latching, broken hinge springs or cables
  • Leaks at the door or under the unit
Bosch dishwashers dry by condensation, so plastic items often come out damp. That's normal. Glasses and plates coming out wet on every cycle is worth a look, starting with the rinse aid.

Bosch Wall Oven, Range and Cooktop Repair

Wall oven repair
500, 800 and Benchmark wall ovens, speed ovens, steam convection ovens, slide-in gas, electric and induction ranges, and Bosch cooktops.

Common problems:
  • Oven not heating, or slow to preheat
  • Temperature running off from the setting
  • Door locked after self-clean, or self-clean not starting
  • Convection fan noisy or not running
  • Speed oven not heating in microwave mode
  • Gas burner clicking without lighting
  • Induction zone not recognizing the pan, or shutting off
On induction, a zone that won't start is sometimes the cookware rather than the cooktop. A magnet should stick firmly to the bottom of the pan. If it does and the zone still won't heat, we test the cooktop. See also range repair and cooktop repair.

Bosch Refrigerator Repair (French Door and Built-In)

French door refrigerator repair
500 and 800 Series French door bottom-freezer refrigerators, counter-depth models and Benchmark built-in columns.

Common problems:
  • Fresh-food section warm while the freezer stays cold
  • Ice maker not making ice, or no water at the dispenser
  • Water pooling under the crisper drawers or on the floor
  • Frost building up on the back wall of the freezer
  • Fan noise, clicking or buzzing
  • Temperature alarm that won't clear
A warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer usually means air isn't moving between them: a frozen evaporator, a failed fan or a defrost problem. Those are usually repairable and don't mean the compressor has failed.

Bosch Washer and Dryer Repair (24-Inch Compact)

Front-load washer repair
Bosch 300, 500 and 800 Series compact front-load washers, condensation dryers and heat pump dryers, installed side by side or stacked.

Common problems:
  • Washer not draining, or an E18 code
  • Door won't lock or won't unlock
  • Loud spinning or grinding from worn drum bearings
  • Water leaking at the door seal or underneath
  • Dryer taking several cycles to dry a load
  • Dryer stopping with a water container or condenser message
Bosch compact dryers don't vent outside. They collect the water in a container or pump it to a drain, and the condenser has to be cleaned regularly. A clogged condenser or a kinked drain hose is behind many slow-drying complaints. More on dryer repair.

Other Bosch Appliances

Why Bosch Owners Call Appliance Insight

• We check the simple causes first. Some dishwasher problems are solved by cleaning the filter or straightening the drain hose, and we won't sell you a part you don't need
• You talk to the technician doing the work
• $65 diagnostic, applied toward the repair if you go ahead
• Written estimate before any work starts
• Parts ordered by model number and FD code
• Shoe covers and floor protection
• Licensed in California, License A 50129
• 183-day warranty on parts and labor for completed repairs

If you can, have the model number (E-Nr) and FD number ready when you book. On Bosch dishwashers they're on a label along the edge of the door. On ovens, look along the door frame with the door open.

What the $65 Bosch Diagnostic Includes

The diagnostic visit is $65. During the visit we:
  • Read error codes and run the built-in test program where the model has one
  • Check the dishwasher filter, drain path, drain pump and inlet valve
  • Measure oven temperature against the setting
  • Test elements, igniters, sensors, switches and door locks with a meter
  • On refrigerators, check temperatures, fans, defrost and drains
  • Explain what failed and give you a written repair estimate
If you approve the repair, the $65 goes toward the total. If you decide not to repair, you pay only the diagnostic.

We don't quote repair prices over the phone. The cost depends on the failed part and the model, and that only becomes clear after testing.

Older Bosch Appliances: Repair or Replace?

A Bosch dishwasher with a failed drain pump, heater, inlet valve or door hinges is usually worth fixing, especially a panel-ready model, where a replacement also means a new cabinet panel. Wall ovens are similar, since a new unit has to fit the same cutout. The math changes when a main control board is no longer made, when the tub itself is leaking, or when an older unit keeps needing major repairs. After the diagnostic you'll get the estimate and our straight opinion. The decision is yours.

Managing a rental or condo? We can coordinate access with tenants or building staff and send photos and a written estimate to the owner.

Bosch Repair FAQ

Is Appliance Insight an authorized Bosch service provider?

No. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with or authorized by Bosch. If your appliance is still under the Bosch warranty, contact Bosch first.

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

E15 means water was detected in the base of the dishwasher, usually from a leak. The anti-flood system stops the cycle. Drying out the base clears the code for a while, but the leak has to be found and fixed or the code comes back.

Why won't my Bosch dishwasher drain?

Start with the filter in the bottom of the tub: twist it out, rinse it, and check the drain pump cover underneath for broken glass or seeds. A kinked drain hose, or a newly installed garbage disposal with the knockout plug still in place, can also stop it. If it still holds water after that, the drain pump or its wiring may have failed.

How much is the diagnostic?

$65. If you approve the repair, it's applied toward the total. You get a written estimate before any work begins.

Do you repair Bosch washers and dryers?

Yes. We repair Bosch 24-inch compact washers, condensation dryers and heat pump dryers, side by side or stacked. Have the model number and FD number from the label inside the door ready if you can.

Can you repair my Bosch the same day?

Same-day diagnostics are often possible if you call before 11 AM. Simple fixes can sometimes be done on the first visit. Parts that aren't available locally are ordered after the diagnostic, and we schedule the repair when they arrive.
