How We Diagnose Samsung Appliances

Samsung appliances show an error code for almost everything. The code is a good place to start, but it rarely names the failed part. A 5C on a washer can be a clogged filter or a dead drain pump; a warm refrigerator can be frost on the evaporator or a failed fan. We read the code, run the appliance's test mode where it has one, and test the part before replacing it.

Many Samsung refrigerators also carry a long manufacturer warranty on the compressor, so if the sealed system has failed, check that coverage before paying for the repair.

Appliance Insight is an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with, authorized or endorsed by Samsung. If your appliance is still under the Samsung warranty, contact Samsung before booking independent service.

Samsung Appliances We Repair

Samsung Refrigerator Repair (French Door, Side-by-Side, Bespoke)

French door refrigerator repair
French door, four-door Flex, side-by-side, top-freezer and Bespoke refrigerators, including counter-depth and Family Hub models.

What we fix most often:
  • Ice maker freezing up, or ice building up in the ice compartment
  • Fresh-food section warm while the freezer stays cold
  • Fan noise, or clicking from ice hitting a fan blade
  • Water leaking inside the fridge or onto the floor
  • No water or ice at the dispenser
  • An error code on the display, or OF OF on the panel
Frost buildup is behind a lot of Samsung refrigerator calls. Defrosting by hand gets things working for a while, but the frost comes back until the cause, usually a seal, a heater or a defrost part, is fixed.

Samsung Washer and Dryer Repair

Clothes dryer repair
Front-load and top-load washers, FlexWash and stacked pairs, and gas and electric dryers, including steam models.

Common problems:
  • 4C: water not filling
  • 5C: water not draining
  • UE or Ub: load unbalanced, or the washer won't spin
  • Door or lid lock error, or the door won't open
  • Loud banging or grinding during spin
  • Dryer running but not heating
  • Dryer taking two cycles to dry a load
An unbalance code that keeps coming back on a normal load usually points to worn shocks, suspension rods or bearings rather than how the laundry was loaded. On dryers, we check the vent before blaming a part. See also dryer repair.

Samsung Range, Oven and Cooktop Repair

Oven repair
Gas, electric and induction ranges, including Flex Duo and slide-in models, plus wall ovens, cooktops and over-the-range microwaves.

Common problems:
  • Oven not heating, or slow to preheat
  • Gas burner clicking or not lighting
  • Radiant element on a glass cooktop not heating
  • Oven temperature off from the setting
  • Control panel not responding, or an error on the display
  • Over-the-range microwave running but not heating
A gas oven that takes a long time to light, or lights and then goes out, usually has a weak bake igniter. That's a common, straightforward repair. See also oven repair and microwave repair.

Samsung Dishwasher Repair

Dishwasher repair
Built-in Samsung dishwashers, including StormWash models and models with a third rack.

Common problems:
  • LC: water detected in the base, usually a leak
  • 5C: water not draining
  • Dishes not getting clean
  • Dishes coming out wet
  • Door not latching
  • Water left in the bottom after the cycle
Before calling about a drain problem, clean the filter at the bottom of the tub. If the dishwasher drains into a garbage disposal, run the disposal too. See dishwasher repair.

Other Samsung Appliances

We also work on:
• Over-the-range and countertop microwaves
• Wall ovens and microwave combination wall ovens
• Range hoods
• Freezers and convertible columns

Why Samsung Owners Call Appliance Insight

• We read the code and test the part. An error code points to a system, not always to the failed part
• You talk to the technician doing the work
• $65 diagnostic, applied toward the repair if you go ahead
• Written estimate before any work starts
• Parts ordered by model number
• Shoe covers and floor protection
• Licensed in California, License A 50129
• 183-day warranty on parts and labor for completed repairs

If you can, have the model number ready when you book. On Samsung refrigerators it's on a label inside the fresh-food section; on front-load washers and dryers, look around the door opening.

What the $65 Samsung Diagnostic Includes

The diagnostic visit is $65. During the visit we:
  • Read error codes and run the built-in test mode where the model has one
  • On refrigerators, check temperatures, fans, frost and defrost parts
  • On washers and dishwashers, check fill, drain and door locks
  • Test igniters, elements, sensors and switches with a meter
  • On dryers, check heat and the vent
  • Explain what failed and give you a written repair estimate
If you approve the repair, the $65 goes toward the total. If you decide not to repair, you pay only the diagnostic.

We don't quote repair prices over the phone. The cost depends on the failed part and the model, and that only becomes clear after testing.

Older Samsung Appliances: Repair or Replace?

A Samsung washer with a failed drain pump, door lock or water valve, or a refrigerator with an ice maker or defrost problem, is usually worth fixing. The math changes when a main control board is no longer made, when a sealed-system repair on an older refrigerator isn't covered by warranty, or when the same appliance keeps needing major repairs. After the diagnostic you'll get the estimate and our straight opinion. The decision is yours.

Managing a rental or condo? We can coordinate access with tenants or building staff and send photos and a written estimate to the owner.

Samsung Repair FAQ

Is Appliance Insight an authorized Samsung service provider?

No. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with or authorized by Samsung. If your appliance is still under the Samsung warranty, contact Samsung first.

Why does my Samsung refrigerator ice maker keep freezing up?

On many Samsung French door models the ice maker sits in the fresh-food door. When warm, humid air gets into that compartment, it turns into frost that jams the ice maker or its fan. Common causes are a worn seal around the ice compartment, a failing heater or fan, or a door that doesn't close fully. Defrosting it clears the problem for a while, but it comes back until the cause is fixed.

What do 4C and 5C mean on a Samsung washer?

4C (4E on older models) means the washer isn't getting enough water: check that both faucets are open and the inlet hoses aren't kinked. 5C (or 5E) means it can't drain: on a front-loader, clean the pump filter behind the small panel at the bottom front, and check the drain hose. If the code comes back, the water inlet valve or the drain pump may have failed.

How much is the diagnostic?

$65. If you approve the repair, it's applied toward the total. You get a written estimate before any work begins.

My Samsung refrigerator shows OF OF. Is it broken?

No. OF OF means the refrigerator is in cooling-off (demo) mode: the lights and display work, but nothing cools. On most models you turn it off by holding two buttons on the panel for a few seconds. The button pair depends on the model, so check the manual. If the display looks normal and it still isn't cooling, call us.

Can you repair my Samsung the same day?

Same-day diagnostics are often possible if you call before 11 AM. Simple fixes can sometimes be done on the first visit. Parts that aren't available locally are ordered after the diagnostic, and we schedule the repair when they arrive.
